Who is EU?
The European Union is a unique economic and political association of its kind and composed of 28 European countries that together cover a large part of the continent.
The origin of the EU is in the period after the Second World War. Its first steps were to foster economic cooperation with the idea that, as economic interdependence between countries increased, the chances of conflict would decrease.
One of the main objectives of the EU is to promote human rights, both within our borders and in the rest of the world. Human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights are its fundamental values.
