TOT Gender Training for Local Union at Factory
The Follow Up meeting has conducted through the plan that trainee have created after training of ToT Gender. The meeting aims to follow up the knowledge of union leader and affiliates of the training on ToT Gender; to find the weakness point, strongly point, and reflection of trainee after practicing; and to monitor and evaluate their practicing through their action plan. The meetings were conducted on 30th August, 2015 at Kol Buth School, in front of Golden Gadzu factory. There were around 28 people included 3 male from Golden Gadzu factory. All of them were the factory worker and come from Phnom Penh.
Ms. Heng Chenda, Gender Committee Chief of CLC has come to open remarkfor this follow up meeting. She said that, CLC have 8 federation included 101278 member.
In this follow up meeting, there are two main people who share the experience of Gender to participant like Mr. Neang Phearum, Executive Director of KYVA, and Miss. Choun Sina, Activists of C-CAWDU and Union leader of Golden Gadzu factory.
Mr. Neang Phearum has share about Gender concept, woman issues, relationship of Gender, Gender equity. He also pushes the participant to think about gender and pay attention with this meeting. He said that “we need to have the value expected for self.”I think, this program is very good and it is an opportunity for all of you to learn the experience from other people (Mr. Phearum said). Before presentation, he has proposed the question to participant make thinking on what is gender? Through this question, we saw that most of participant doesn’t have the concept of gender they don’t know what is gender and they have shy with the expression their opinion to the meeting. Mr. Phearum have push the participant to be brave in expressing the idea.
Miss. Choun Sina was presentation on Gender issues she focus on Definition of Gender, The difference between Man and woman, the function of Gender. She has review the lesson with participant before presentation. after presentation, she has created around two groups to paint the picture of man and woman. And then she has reflection the picture to the differences between man and woman.
Sum Up: At the end of follow up meeting, Miss. Born Kanha who is a project assistant of CLC has come to sum up the holed meeting. She said that, CLC get the financial support from EU by CNV-I to implementing the project on “To promoting Core Labour Standard in Cambodia to-ward a Decent Job for Cambodian Workers”. She continued that, the period of this project t three year that starting from 2013 to 2017. She adds that, I really satisfy with Miss. Choun Sina who was a trainee on ToT Gender of CLC. She is the first of all trainees who practice on her work plan and try
Strongly Point: Depending on the observation from facilitators have fond that all of each group have good collaboration, good in explaining, good time management, be brave, and they are flexible in presentation an reply all the question to participant.
Weakness Point: through thegroup presentation, they don’t have proposed the question to the participant, the way to do presentation, no eye contact.
Overall Concluding:The training has completed for two day through the program of CLC and CNV-I proposed. There were more number of participate and follow the expectation. Most of them are the female from 7 confederations include one university who is non-number of CLC. The participants have good communication and active in sharing the knowledge. They have respected on the training regulation, respect the value of other participant.
Challenge:the training meet some challenge to preparing this training with an internal expert. Actually, CLC have invited Ms. Chem Channeang, Project Coordinator who is an internal expert from NGOs Cedaw to do presentation on gender policy and gender mainstreamingand she has agree with CLC to be as a presenter in this section. At the last minute on 22 July, 2015 (mid-night) she has contact to project team for request to cancel her from this presentation because she need to shove a big problem that happen in her family.She said sorry to project team that she has cancel in this presentation. Depending on her problem, project teams have make an urgent decisions to change her to Ms. Meas Vanny to be as a presenter in this section.It is the big problems that project team never meet before.
Lesson Learn:Depending on canceling of presenter (Ms. Channeang), it is good lessons learn for project team to flexible in make an urgent decision to change and contact a new speaker. Project teams have learn from the trainee’s role play in providing training. Learn on how monitoring the hold training and manage the participant in the training.
Successful:Both Presenters have more knowledge and skill in presentation and sharing to participant. They are strongly and have good technic in presenting and flexible to answer the question. Most of participant has pay attention with the training and active in asking the question trainer to clarify. There is more voice of woman in the training and they are brave to express the idea on gender issues. Male in the training have express his opinion to support the woman and want to see the number of woman leaders in the union. The training has time management and good following the program. The trainees have facilitated the training success and they have set the action plan with CLC after training.
